S4 Energy has reached a major milestone in its European growth strategy with the formal handover and construction readiness of its first Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Germany. This development follows the successful aquisition of the Terra One
project in November 2024.
“We’re excited to see the first project from the Terra One pipeline reach this stage,” says Marius Schaaps, International Business Development at S4 Energy. “This marks the beginning of a new chapter for S4 Energy as we bring our proven track-record to the German market.”
The BESS, situated in the municipality of Burhafe, Lower Saxony, is a 15 MW, 2-hour battery energy storage system and represents the first project under the previously announced pipeline acquisition with Terra One. The pipeline acquisition covers a portfolio of battery storage projects in Germany totaling 310 MW.
“We are happy to have reached full ‘Ready To Build’ status on the first BESS project sold under our 310 MW project right transaction with S4 Energy, and we look forward to the further cooperation with S4 Energy as our partnership continues to deliver concrete results and accelerate the deployment of large- scale energy storage solutions across Germany.” says Maximilian Bodewei, Head of Development, Terra One.
This milestone highlights S4 Energy’s commitment to a resilient and sustainable energy system. By enhancing grid flexibility, S4 Energy aims to play a vital role in enabling the renewable energy transition and tackling the global climate challenge, while expanding across Europe with the ambition to become one of the continent’s leading flexibility providers.
S4 Energy develops, builds, owns, and operates grid-scale battery energy storage systems — giving the company end-to-end control, full transparency, and the ability to act as a reliable partner in the energy transition. By adding dedicated storage capacity that delivers consistent, dependable services, S4 Energy helps enhance grid flexibility and long-term efficiency — contributing to a cleaner, more resilient energy system.
