About S4 Eemshaven

Strategically positioned at the centre of the northern energy hub, S4 Eemshaven delivers 7.75 MW / 31 MWh of grid-scale storage at one of the Netherland’s most critical power corridors. The system provides four hours of flexibility, ensuring reliability in a region that links offshore wind generation to the national grid. Built in partnership with the Province of Eemshaven and the municipality of Eemsdelta, it is equipped with 8 Tesla Megapack 2XL and the site is energised as of May 2025. Projects like S4 Eemshaven balance the region’s expanding wind and solar capacity, turning volatility into stability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Renewable energy from wind and solar is not always produced when it is needed. This creates congestion on the electricity grid and wasted potential. By storing energy when supply is high and releasing it when demand is high, battery storage keeps the grid stable and ensures renewable power is always available.
