Safe, transparent energy storage developed with the community

We adhere to all applicable safety regulations and aim to set the standard for safe energy storage development. During the permitting process, we actively engage with local residents and environmental organisations to improve the ecological and spatial design of each project.

What is Energy Storage and why here?

A battery park stores electricity and supplies it when demand is highest. This stabilises the electricity grid and enables greater integration of renewable energy sources.

Locations are selected near key substations to maximise safety, efficiency, and grid impact. This ensures stored energy can be deployed quickly and effectively where it delivers the greatest benefit to grid stability.

Safety & Environment

PGS 37 is the Dutch safety guideline for battery energy storage systems, developed in close cooperation with the fire brigade and safety authorities. S4 Energy applies this guideline to all new projects, including those initiated before it became mandatory.

In addition, all electrical installations are designed and implemented in line with leading international standards, including IEC and NFPA, ensuring high levels of quality, reliability, and operational integrity.

Community Involvement

During project preparation, our partnerships and land agents personally engage with direct and indirect neighbours to explain the plans and answer questions. For the wider community, we organise at least two public information meetings to share updates and gather feedback.

We also work with local environmental organisations to optimise the ecological quality and spatial design of each site.

Local Value & National Impact

Battery parks play an important role in supporting a reliable and sustainable energy system at both local and national level. In some cases, nearby businesses benefit from improved grid access or reduced congestion, helping to make more efficient use of existing infrastructure.

Each site includes a dedicated ecological zone to enhance local biodiversity. Where possible, maintenance is carried out by local contractors, supporting the local economy and reducing environmental impact.

Documents & Permits

We believe transparency is essential. Publicly available information may include the participation plan, summaries of community meetings, an overview of the development process, and a general Q&A on battery energy storage.

Detailed safety documentation is not made public for security reasons, but is shared in full with the relevant authorities.
